4-Layer Semi-Homemade Chocolate Cake

Written on Monday, August 6th, 2012 @ 11:42 am

If you have been following my blog and Facebook page, I recently went to a Fifty Shades of Grey book club (AKA..best party ever!). For the event, I made Mr. Grey’s Birthday Cake (Book 2).

In Fifty Shades Darker, Ana made chocolate cake with chocolate icing. I wanted to be a little crazy and make a 4-layer chocolate cake with lots flare.

Start by using a Devil’s Food Cake from your local grocery store (Duncan Hines is the best). Follow directions as instructed on the box for a round 2-layer cake. Remove cakes from pans and place gently on greased waxed paper. Wait a few hours until completely cooled, and then cut each cake horizontally in half with a large serrated bread knife. Set aside.

Then make the homemade chocolate buttercream icing. (http://www.modhousewife.com/2012/07/homemade-chocolate-buttercream-icing/)

When ready to ice the cake, begin with the first layer and ice. Continue process until cake is complete. It is important to be patient while icing so not to make a mess of crumbs on the cake.

Decorate the cake anyway you like. I chose mini-chocolate chips and strawberries.

Enjoy!
