Troop Beverly Hills

Written on Thursday, April 26th, 2012 @ 12:16 pm

I was craving Girl Scout cookies last night; and I began reminiscing of my years as a Brownie, Junior and Cadet. The Girls Scouts of America is a wonderful organization. I remember the crafts, campouts, badges and most importantly, the cookies. In the next few years, I see my daughter becoming a Girl Scout and carrying on so many traditions.

I think about becoming my daughter’s troop leader…even though I hate camping, not a fan of making knots and so on. I’m sure the Girl Scout curriculum has changed in past 25 years. However, I see my troop being more like “Troop Beverly Hills”.

What a wonderful movie that taught us so much such as:

  • -The California Community Property Laws can’t be beat.
  • -Appraising diamonds and gardening with glamour should be earned badges.
  • -A hotel room with nine people and one bathroom is roughing it.
  • -Perms are bad!
  • -Tori Spelling is not a real blonde.
  • -And the underdogs can always win the Annual Jamboree!

If you have a chance, watch this movie again. It’s fun and girls love it! Plus, you’ll get a small glimpse of my own troop. I will definitely teach my girls how to survive in the wilds of business, fashion and cooking with major appliances. (Not a fan of cooking on an open flame.) Also, I have a wonderful marketing plan for my troop’s cookie business….I see social media, websites, direct marketing, trade shows, etc.

Semi-Homemade Sausage Pizza

Written on Wednesday, April 25th, 2012 @ 12:48 pm

Not feeling like making a huge dinner in the middle of the week? Try my Semi-Homemade Sausage Pizza. It’s simple, delicious and the whole family will love it!

Take a Jiffy pizza crust and pour into a greased bowl. Add less than a half cup of hot tap water and mix into a batter with a fork. When it is the consistency of a dough, put onto a greased pizza pan and roll out (the pan must have holes in the bottom). In a 425 degree oven, place for 4 minutes on the lower rack.

On high heat, fry Italian sausage into crumbles. Drain grease and set aside.

Then take crust out of oven and spread pizza sauce on top. Add sausage crumbles and 2 cups of shredded Mozzarella cheese.

Then place back in the oven for another 15 to 16 minutes, let set for a few minutes and serve. Add a salad for a complete meal.

Enjoy!

*Not a fan of prepared pizza sauce. Mix 1 small can of tomato sauce with Italian seasonings and onion and garlic powders. Tastes great!

Hello, I Am Addicted To Caffeine!

Written on Tuesday, April 24th, 2012 @ 12:40 pm

Every morning, I either have a hot mocha chalk-full of espresso or a chilled coffee drink. Unfortunately, this has become an expensive habit; and I crave the taste and the energy level. In fact, on the days I am cold turkey, I feel moody, my energy level sinks and headaches increase. Could I be addicted to caffeine?

The answer is yes!

“Caffeine alters mood and behavior, and it can also result in physical dependence, says Roland Griffiths, a professor in the departments of psychiatry and neuroscience at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. ‘People are hesitant to think of it as a drug of addiction because it doesn’t have a lot of the health and adverse social consequences associated with our classic drugs of addiction, yet the basic mechanisms by which it hooks people are very much like our classic drugs of addiction,’ he says.” *

I have given up soda and drink lots of water throughout the day. But I still need that caffeine fix in the morning. Maybe decaffeinated tea would give me the boost I need? We shall see.

Are you an addict too?

Cinnamon Crescents…The Most Perfect Breakfast Roll

Written on Monday, April 16th, 2012 @ 1:02 pm

Per my blog posting yesterday, I made cinnamon crescents for my weekend guests. Because we were eating at local restaurants for lunch and dinner, I did not want to serve a large breakfast. These rolls, along with some coffee, took the edge off early morning hunger.

For the recipe, click here: http://www.thehungryhousewife.com/2012/03/crescent-cinnamon-rolls.html

Simple to make, however the glaze recipe listed did not create the right consistency. Instead, I used my glaze recipe: ¾ cup sifted confectioner sugar and 3 to 4 tbsp of water. (Use a hand mixer)

The rolls were hot, buttery, sweet and very light. It’s easy to eat more than one.

Enjoy!

Be The Perfect Hostess

Written on Sunday, April 15th, 2012 @ 4:32 pm

Hosting guests from out of town? This is a great time to exercise the art of being the perfect hostess. Recently,we hosted out-of-town relatives; and I wanted them to feel completely comfortable in their new environment and ready to explore my city.

The keys to being the perfect hostess are simple: plan ahead and cater to the comforts of your guests.

Examples:

Create a guest room that’s cozy and tranquil…a haven to relax while away. A clean room, fluffy pillows, fresh sheets and a comfortable blanket make your guests feel right at home and very refreshed.

Surprise your guests with a special treat in their room. Our relatives received a local favorite, Graeter’s Buckeye candy.

Fill the guest bath with fresh scents. Have a votive candle burning and fragrant moisturizing hand soap. Plus, large soft towels give a luxurious hotel experience.

If lunch and dinner are at local eateries, make a continental breakfast at home. Have your guests favorite coffee brewing and bake a homemade breakfast roll everyone will enjoy…..Cinnamon Crescents (recipe tomorrow).

Finally, create a full itinerary including activities, meals and down time. Planning ahead makes life easy on the hostess and creates a mini-vacation for your guests. This also allows everyone to plan outfits and pack easily.

Go In The Nude!

Written on Friday, April 13th, 2012 @ 12:24 pm

With all the bold color this season, think about going nude….for your footwear!

Nude heels, sandals and wedges are very popular this season. If you plan to wear bold capris and a patterned shirt or a colorful dress with contrasting jewelry, try a nude heel. Sometimes it’s better to go simple. Plus, a neutral shoe goes with everything.

Kohl’s Candies® $39.99

Follow this rule: It’s not wrong if Kate wears it!
